Nicole Lawrence, 31, spent years singing in pubs, clubs and at weddings as a duo with her father. He passed away at Christmas, and before he died he encouraged her to audition for The X Factor.
Her first song did not land the way she hoped, so Simon Cowell asked what else she had prepared. She chose If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys, and Simon told her to forget the clubs and simply sing. This time her voice opened up. 🎶
Simon said she was a good singer with a lot of bad habits, while another judge insisted she was better than he thought. The panel came around, and the yeses followed, with a warning that the over 25s category would be tough.
The second chance became her ticket to the next round, a moment her dad had believed in all along. ❤️
