A Chimney Sweep Sang and the Judges Said He Was Born to Sing

Kye Sones singing at his X Factor audition

Kye Sones, 29, from Middlesex was working as a chimney sweep in London when he auditioned for The X Factor in 2012. After ten years of playing small clubs up and down the country, he came on his own, saying he just needed a lucky break.

He sang his own mash-up of Swedish House Mafia’s Save the World and Rita Ora’s R.I.P., with Rita Ora sitting right there on the panel. His smooth, stripped-back vocals had the arena hooked from the first line. 🎶

The judges were thrilled. One said they had found not just a singer but an artist, another told him he was born to sing, not to clean chimneys, and someone said that voice could sell albums.

Four yeses later, Kye walked off almost in disbelief. He said he never dreamed it would go so smoothly, and for once his lucky break had finally arrived. ❤️
