They Made a Pact at 12, Then The Other Direction Kept It and Won Over Simon Cowell

Singer on stage under colorful lights

The five members of The Other Direction met at show choir camp in middle school, when they were only 12. They came out to each other there and made a pact that once they turned 21, they would form a boy band together. On America’s Got Talent, they kept that promise.

Alex the jock, Norm the cowboy, Jason the party boy, Greg the mama bear and Devin the fashionista performed their own original song, “Girl, You’re the Best”. Their harmonies, humour and big personalities had the audience laughing and cheering. 🎶

Heidi Klum wanted to hear it again, Howie Mandel called them really funny and really talented, and Sofia Vergara loved the song and their voices. Simon Cowell said that after so many terrible boy bands over the years, this one was different, clever and very original.

The yeses followed, and a promise made by five kids at camp turned into a real moment on one of the biggest stages in the world. ❤️
