One young man wants to visit the theater from the vegetable section of his local supermarket.
Aaron Westberry is his name.
He’s from Greenville, South Carolina, and his voice speaks for itself.
Twenty-year-old Aaron works as a vegetable stocker at a grocery store as he decides what he wants to do with his life.
Aaron made the decision to record himself singing and playing the piano, and he intended to email the video to a woman he knows.
Aaron felt he was singing well for the first time, and she loved it.
Aaron auditioned for American Idol as a result.
This enormous performance has launched the careers of some well-known vocalists.
However, if you had simply assessed Aaron based on his behavior, you would never have known that he thought it was a serious worry. Very calm and cool.
He wore pants and a long-sleeved shirt to the audition, and he showed no emotion at all. The judges tried to use discussion to get Aaron to show some emotion, but he stayed calm. When they asked him what song he would be performing, he replied that he would be singing “2016” by Sam Hunt. He was going to sing the song and play the piano at the same time.
It was the piano that changed him.
As soon as he sang the opening note, the judges’ faces changed. The amount of emotion that erupted from a teenager who had only seconds before seemed almost dispassionate astounded them.
As though they were two different people.
Aaron finished the song and then walked back to the middle of the stage with the same poise he had started with.
Luke Bryan, a well-known country musician, was the first judge to speak.
“Dude, you sound like you’re in heartbreak,” he told Aaron. And it was true.
Lionel Richie, another judge, tried to get Aaron excited about the idea of being a singer, but Aaron wasn’t too interested in doing so.
All three judges agreed that Aaron should go to the next round in Hollywood because of his outstanding performance.
What do you suppose Aaron did when he received this amazing news? Not a lot.
With his hands in his pockets, he whispered, “Thank you very much,” and walked out of the room.
Aaron might be the least excited American Idol contestant to ever set foot in Hollywood, but at least he stays true to himself.
