Abby sat at the kitchen island, tears flowing down her face, feeling overwhelmed and tired. Logan, her infant, had been crying uncontrollably all day, and she was at a loss on how to comfort him. Her worried spouse Walter came over to console Abby as soon as he saw the distress on her face and put a hand on her shoulder.
Walter said to Abby, “Oh, honey, how long has Logan been crying like this?” with a troubled tone. With a trembling breath, Abby admitted, “Walter, it’s been all day. I’ve done everything I can think of, including feeding, burping, bathing, and changing his diaper. However, nothing appears to soothe him. I’m at a loss for what action to do.
Walter’s thoughts were with his wife and their bereaved son. “Don’t worry, my love,” he soothed Abby, resolute in his search for a solution. Together, we’ll work this out. Let’s head over and try to calm him down.
Abby nodded, appreciative of Walter’s help, and let him lead her to Logan’s nursery. Abby’s already tense feelings became even more heightened as they got closer and closer to Logan’s cries. They went inside the nursery, where Walter tried to soothe Logan by saying, “Hey there, buddy.” It appears that today has been extremely difficult for both you and Mama. See if Daddy can help you get a better life.
But as Walter bent down to tend to Logan’s needs, he saw something unexpected. A tiny dictaphone with a red blinking recording light was tucked away amid the blankets in the soft glow of the nursery. Walter’s expression turned confused as he reached for the gadget and said, “What is this doing here?”
Walter hit the playback button out of curiosity, and an enigmatic voice enveloped the space. As they listened to the tape, Walter and Abby’s eyes grew wide with surprise. They discovered a secret that would completely alter their lives, and their hands immediately shot to their lips in shock.
Abby and Walter were horrified to learn that Logan’s cries were concealing a much darker truth than they had ever anticipated. As they listened to the recording together, the ramifications of what they had learned were overwhelming them. It became evident that nothing will ever be the same in their life.
