A 51-Year-Old Lorry Driver Thought He Was Too Old to Sing, Then the X Factor Judges Heard Him

Singer Terry Winstanley

Terry Winstanley is 51 and comes from West Sussex. He drives a lorry for a scaffolding company and has four children, two stepchildren and grandchildren he adores. He married at 21, the kids came early, and music slowly slipped out of his life.

By his 30s he believed he was too old to chase it. On The X Factor he called this his one last shot, then sang Michael Bolton’s version of “To Love Somebody” with a deep, soulful voice that filled the room 🎶

The judges were moved. One told him that this stage is where he belongs, another said it is never too late and that he is living proof of it, and another said he had just shown the show how it is done, old school style.

He needed three yeses and got every one of them, including a very, very big yes. The man who thought his time had passed was finally through to the next round ❤️
