When Ché Chesterman first appeared on The X Factor stage, the judges didn’t seem to have high expectations for him. Simon Cowell, Cheryl, Rita Ora, and Nick Grimshaw all made neutral facial expressions because of his calm manner and laid-back personality, which suggested that he would be an ordinary contender. They appeared prepared for a typical audition by this point, not anticipating anything out of the young Essex singer.
However, the mood in the room completely changed when Ché began singing Jessie J’s “Who You Are.” Everyone was instantly enthralled by the power and depth of his voice. The judges’ initially calm expressions eventually transformed into ones of shock and keen attention. They were obviously moved by his performance, which showed that his talent well beyond their original impressions.
By the end, Ché’s performance had clearly delighted everyone, as seen by the judges’ enthusiastic applause and the audience’s standing ovation. After being shocked, Rita Ora emphasized that “never judge a book by its cover,” while Cheryl said that she initially “wasn’t quite sure.” Ché’s audition transformed low expectations into overwhelming praise as he showcased his incredible vocal skills.
