Eleven-year-old Wrexham schoolboy Olly Pearson came to the Britain’s Got Talent stage with a modest but lofty ambition: to become the best guitarist in the world. He won over the judges right away by revealing that, although admitting that he was “quite nervous,” he had learned the basics of the guitar from his grandfather when he was seven years old. When asked about his greatest inspiration, Olly immediately brought up Angus Young of AC/DC, which delighted the judging panel and revealed his strong rock and roll background.
Olly put on a strong show that featured a rock tune with vocals and a guitar solo that showed off skills much beyond his years. The teenage rock star showed incredible mastery of his guitar as he strode around the stage with the energy and swagger of a seasoned veteran. His maturity and excitement truly surprised the judges; once he started playing, he completely changed and gave it his all. His performance was a lesson in rock showmanship, and the entire audience gave him a standing ovation.
The judges were in disbelief. One judge affirmed “A Star is Born,” stating, “I have never ever seen anything like that in my life.” Another panelist said Olly already has his own “distinct sound,” which usually takes decades to establish. The atmosphere was so intense that the audience cheered for a Golden Buzzer. After one of the judges crushed the Golden Buzzer, recognizing the pure skill and promise, Olly progressed straight to the live semi-finals as a truly deserving victor.
