Calum Courtney, a happy and confident 10-year-old from Essex, joined his big and supportive family on the Britain’s Got Talent stage. The young singer showed no traces of the anxiousness typical for such a big platform, but he calmly told the judges that he was not nervous and that he absolutely planned to win the entire competition. During his audition, Calum decided to perform a famous and notoriously challenging Michael Jackson song, which immediately raised the stakes and equipped him for a difficult assignment in front of the notoriously critical panel.
As soon as the music began, Calum’s emotional and impassioned rendition of “Who’s Loving You” enthralled the entire auditorium. His voice had a surprising depth and control, and his tone and vocal authenticity were much above what the assessors had anticipated for a child of his age. Because of the genuine emotion he put into the performance, he received a standing ovation from the panel and audience, demonstrating that his confidence was well-founded.
The little singer’s cries of pleasure throughout the feedback showed the emotional impact of his performance, and the judge said it was one of the strongest emotions they had ever witnessed. Simon Cowell, who was deeply pleased, called Calum’s performance “special” and said he had “soul” and “a very authentic voice.” Calum Courtney gave an audition that millions of people would never forget, and he comfortably proceeded to the next round after receiving four “yeses” from the panel.
