We were horrified to learn why my dog had attacked and bitten a guest on the arm during the ceremony.
The happiest day of my life was our wedding day. I was marrying the woman I really cared about. We had spent over a year preparing for this day, so everything had to be perfect. Approximately one hundred people, including friends, family, and coworkers, attended the event. It was simply joy.
Everyone came up to congratulate us and wish us many more years of love, loyalty, and happiness. I was standing among the guests when my bride made a quick break to snap pictures with her friends.
Suddenly, a stranger approached me wearing a long green outfit. Presuming she was a visitor from my wife’s side, I politely accepted her congratulations. But there was an odd tone in her speech. She spoke as if she had known me for years, recalling details, leaving hints, and cracking jokes that were too intimate.
I started to feel uneasy. But before I could reply, something unexpected happened.
My dog, Koko, was lying quietly next to our table when he suddenly sprung to his feet, rushed to the woman, and bit her arm. The woman cried out in pain and fear, pleading with us to take the dog away. Among the visitors who hurried over was my bride.
“What’s going on?” she shouted.
Someone stated that Koko had bitten one of your relatives.
— Who? Which relative?
I pointed to the woman dressed in green. As my wife approached and glanced at her, she whispered in my ear, “I’ve never seen this woman before.” We do not have her as a visitor.
Panic was in the air. Who was she? Why was she there? Why did Koko behave the way she did? Barking and shaking, my dog seemed to be trying to protect us.
We had to interrupt the celebration to learn what was going on. We called security, and they removed the woman off the property. Only a few days later, we learned the terrible truth about this woman’s real identity and the cause of the dog’s actions.
It came out that the woman was the mother of my former girlfriend. My wife and I had dated before I met her. After our breakup, she went through a really difficult time; she lost her job, moved out of town, and was on the verge of a breakdown.
Her mother blamed me for everything since she believed I had “ruined” her daughter’s life. She came to the wedding with the intention of ruining it. We are unsure of her exact intentions. But it was Koko who first realized something was wrong.
If not for him… There are too many options for me to even think about.
I no longer think of my dog as merely a pet; he is now my true guardian angel.
