Even though my dog has never growled at strangers before, I was shocked to discover why she jumped at this man when she saw him
After my wife passed away, my puppy became my only true friend and the reason I was still alive. I trusted her more than I trusted anyone else. Throughout her life, she had been the model of poise and obedience; she was friendly to everyone, never attacked strangers, and never let out a bark without reason.
That day, as we were walking around the city, I was beginning to feel a little worn out from the years coming up with me. I sat down on a sidewalk bench and my faithful companion lay down at my feet. Everything seemed normal: people were hurrying by, cars were passing, and we were just unwinding and enjoying the view.
However, I then noticed a strange man approaching. His look was unremarkable; he was of average height, dressed simply, and showed no unusual characteristics. But his eyes were vigilant and slightly concerned, and he walked too tensely and too fast. As soon as he got close, my dog tightened up; the fur on her back sprang up and she hissed, something she had never done before.
Before I could even process what was happening, she sprang forward and let out a loud, furious bark, as if to defend me from something invisible. I was hardly able to hold on to the leash since she was pulling so hard. The man stopped abruptly, stumbled, and was visibly startled:
— Well, tell me what time it is, please.
My dog was acting abnormally even after that, and I now understood why
There was an odd hesitation in the man’s voice, and his eyes darted around as though he was trying to think of anything to say. I had a terrible instinct.
I responded briefly and feigned to examine my phone as he ran off, glaring at us.
I stayed there for a few minutes and massaged my dog to calm her down. Later that evening, I chance to see a picture of that same man on a news show when I arrived home.
It discovered that the police were looking for him in connection with a series of minor thefts and robberies because he would approach individuals with any excuse to distract them before stealing their wallets or purses.
That’s when I realized my clever dog had spotted danger before me and had repelled the intruder.
Maybe she sensed his energy or her instincts took control. But I knew that I had to trust my spouse at all times.
What may have happened if she hadn’t been there? Once again, I realized that a dog is more than just an animal; it’s a friend, a member of the family, and a real protector.
