Is my grandmother’s approach to knee discomfort more effective than using a cream?
Everyone recalls the little pranks of a grandmother from a bygone period. No pharmacy, no prescription. Nature and simplicity alone… and often an efficacy that keeps us quiet.
My grandmother’s favorite treatment for knee discomfort was a warm poultice made from cabbage leaves.
No expensive anti-inflammatory drugs or ointments. A fresh towel was placed over the joint after a few heated leaves were applied and left there for 30 minutes.
What do you know, too? I tried it.
Unexpected but quite potent. “Cabbage draws out the pain,” she used to say. And now that I know about the anti-inflammatory properties of this underappreciated vegetable, I think she might have been entirely right.
Her grandmother’s remedy is simple, yet it’s one of those timeless lessons we all too frequently forget.
At a time when we’re scrambling to discover the miracle remedy in pills or tubes, the solution can be right in our kitchen.
What about you? Have you inherited these traditional remedies?
Have you ever tried cabbage leaves, apple cider vinegar, or homemade rosemary balm?
