Buddy was cruelly set on fire and strangled with an extension cord – but look at him today

It’s truly horrifying how vicious some people can be to dogs. All too often, these defenseless animals endure unnecessary suffering.

That was the case with one dog, who had suffered a horrific attack that left his face severely burned. But luckily, he has been making progress ever since. There was a miracle recovery because of some kind veterinarians.

Buddy, a dog described as “happy and carefree” and “never a threat to anyone,” was burned, according to a Tunica Humane Society report dated April 2021. He was found with his face completely blackened and burned, and an extension cable around his neck.

According to WTVA, a child later confessed to setting Buddy on fire, but he is not old enough to face charges.

Buddy received medical attention from the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was placed in the custody of the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi. While in their care, Buddy began a slow but hopeful path to recovery.

Dr. Elizabeth Swanson, an associate professor and veterinary surgeon, told WTVA that although Buddy’s vital signs are okay, “like any burn patient, this is just the beginning of a long journey.”

“We are keeping him comfortable, changing his bandages, and addressing any problems as they arise.”

Thankfully, despite the shocking tragedy, Buddy doesn’t seem to have lost his vision. Physicians believed his eyes were still healthy, according to the Tunica Humane Society. After he recovers, he should be able to see some after the damage to his eyelids is properly healed.

Buddy still had bandages all over his upper body. Nevertheless, he has remained upbeat about everything.

The Humane Society wrote on Facebook, “He continues to make progress every day.” “He never failed his physicians.” Everyone concerned has been thrilled with the results of his skin transplants. Although it takes a long time for burn injuries to heal, Buddy is recovering nicely.

“When he changed his bandages today, his face looked considerably better. While he heals, Buddy is picking up some basic commands.

“This nice, friendly dog didn’t deserve what happened to him,” they wrote on Facebook. There was no danger from him. It was quite ruthless and clever.

“Hopefully, Buddy’s horrific injuries weren’t in vain. that something good will come out of this tragedy. In cases like Buddy’s, justice will be served, and things will change.

Since his story went viral a few years ago, Buddy has made significant progress, and Mississippi State vets provided him with the best care available.

As skin grafts helped his wounds heal, he required fewer and fewer bandages. Gradually, he became more like himself.

The removal of the bandages from his ears has made him considerably happier and more energetic. The Tunica Humane Society stated last month, “I have no doubt that he is ecstatic as his life gradually returns to normal.”

On August 7, the rescue also noted a “significant turning point” in Buddy’s recovery.

After his bandages, which had completely covered his eyes since the attack, were removed without the use of potent sedatives, Buddy was able to see for the first time in over three months.

“His eyes were actually open and he was very aware,” the Humane Society said. “Yes, thanks to your innumerable prayers, Buddy can still see.”

Buddy’s final real vision occurred in the terrifying seconds before a child burned his face. In a single moment, this dog’s entire life changed.

Being able to see was a significant step toward normalcy for this poor puppy, and his caregivers say that his personality has begun to blossom again.

Since Buddy first saw daylight, his entire behavior has changed, Sandy Williams, the director of the Tunica Humane Society, told WREG.

He is happy and energetic, and as he moves through the hospital’s corridors, he has a big ball in his mouth. He loves balls. He keeps them on exhibit so that everyone can see them.

The rescue uploaded a video of Buddy playing fetch:

Although it’s a big step forward, Buddy is still in danger. His eyelids will need some therapy to protect his eyes because he hasn’t fully recovered, the Humane Society wrote on Facebook.

Because of the severity of his injuries, he will also need special care for the rest of his life.

Williams told WREG, “He will need to wear sunscreen when he’s outside, his skin will be sensitive, and his eyes will probably need eye drops.” “He won’t develop into a dog who can bask in the sun for hours on end.”

Many of you have gotten in touch with us lately about Buddy. His forever mother, Dr., has provided this incredibly happy update.

We are thrilled that Buddy can see again and is starting to look like the person he used to be! He has been recuperating remarkably because of all the nice individuals who have been trying to save him.
