Tragically, a dedicated mother of six and police officer perished in a frantic pursuit. Phylicia Carson, 33, of the Osage Beach Police Department was on duty when the tragedy happened early on Sunday morning.
Officer Carson began it all when he noticed a car traveling too fast on a rural road near the Lake of the Ozarks. Determined to keep the peace, she switched on her emergency lights and started chasing. However, the suspect changed his mind and decided to flee.
During the furious pursuit, Officer Carson’s police car lost control, swerved off the road, and collided with a tree. The hit was so severe that the car caught fire, making it impossible for her to escape. Tragically, she lost her life in the crash.
The suspect, eventually identified as 23-year-old Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, crashed and was arrested as he kept avoiding the police. A follow-up investigation is currently underway, overseen by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Officer Phylicia Carson became a dedicated member of the Osage Beach Police Department in June 2023. Her friends, family, and other police officers are heartbroken by this unfathomable loss. Her loving spouse, Grant Carson, and their six children now have to face the difficulty of living without her.
The community and the entire police force have been deeply impacted by this tragic incident, which was the first on-duty death in thirty years. Chief Todd Davis urged everyone to keep the Carson family, the department, and the community in their prayers in a passionate voice.

In a heartfelt remembrance of X, Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe expressed his sympathies to Officer Carson’s family and coworkers after the tragic news. The lieutenant governor emphasized the importance of commemorating Officer Phylicia Carson’s sacrifice and paying tribute to those who are still serving and protecting.
The suspect has now been accused of other offenses, such as killing a police officer, attempting to elude capture, and resisting arrest. While he awaits more court appearances, he remains detained at the Camden County Jail without bond.

The community’s sorrow over Officer Carson’s death serves as a reminder of the risks that law enforcement officers face every day while carrying out their jobs. Her bravery, dedication, and hard work in ensuring her community’s safety will always be remembered and appreciated. I wish her tranquility.
