It’s not always enough to be at the right place at the right time to solve issues. It often takes courage as well to demonstrate that you are willing to stand up for the vulnerable and those in need.
What seemed to be simply another night out turned into a memorable one for these four young men.Arnaud Nimenya, Carsyn Wright, James Hielema, and Starlyn Rives-Perez were skating in an underground parking lot when they spotted something quite odd. A young girl, perhaps fifteen years old, had been dragged through the area while intoxicated by an older, well-dressed male. This surprised the boys because they felt that something wasn’t quite right.The girl was not doing well. She was so drunk, according to one of the boys, that “she was screaming and yelling.” She just wanted to get out of there. She was scratched and dirty.
But when the boys got closer, he said he was the girl’s father, hoping to help her get rid of that man. Since she didn’t really say anything about it, they decided to back off.
“You really don’t want to think about what could go wrong with someone like them. “You don’t want that situation to be real, so you just brush it off and hope for the best,” Wright said.
However, the men felt he wasn’t being honest, so they made the decision to turn around and check on the girl once again.
It turned out that the decision would save this woman’s life.
They were completely stunned by the graphic scene when they got back. The male was committing sexual assault on the helpless young woman.
“As soon as you go in and witness anything like that, you freeze. “You don’t know what to do,” said Nimenya, one of the young men.
They felt they needed to move as quickly as possible, so they sprinted for the attacker. In an attempt to leave the parking lot, he started to run.
“He was trying to get away and walk away from us,” Nimenya said.After he pushed me roughly out of my way, I grinned and thought, “I can do this.” You can’t do anything about it.
These adolescent fighters wouldn’t just let the attacker off the hook, so they were determined to capture him. The guys got into a physical argument after the man started hitting them with one of their skateboards. Luckily, the police arrived just as planned.
The boys were relieved that the mother was now secure. But the police couldn’t ignore the boys’ heroic deed, so they decided to reward them for their courage and bravery by inviting them to the Chief’s Awards Gala, where they would get the recognition and publicity they so richly deserved.
We are quite proud of the way these young men handled the situation. To protect a defenseless and fragile woman, they even risk their lives. You are all our true inspirations and idols.
