Ty Pennington gained notoriety as a gorgeous carpenter; nevertheless, his appearance has changed. Unfortunately, the 58-year-old celebrity has been the target of abuse and harassment on social media. Others have called him “fat,” “disgusting,” and “gross.” Ty finally lost it, and his most recent answer to his detractors is excellent.
Ever since Ty Pennington, the host of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, made an appearance on the popular BBC show Trading Spaces, where he worked as a carpenter, many people have fallen in love with him. It should come as no surprise that Ty was asked to host one of the best shows for the impoverished because of his extraordinary talent and attractiveness.
Though hosting the show put Ty in the spotlight, being on the set came with expenses. It was difficult for him to find time for himself.
“I didn’t see my partner or family for ten years.” He said, “I would go out again, come home, do laundry,” to The Atlanta Constitution in 2019.
“Oh my! When they saw me, people from the old TV show cried out. You look amazing! I had a little nap! I feel like a lot has changed in my appearance since I was on the show.
To tell the truth, Ty’s enthusiasm in building wasn’t always there. Rather than going to art school, he worked in construction with the intention of becoming a graphic designer. But a near-fatal vehicle accident destroyed his modeling career, so he turned to carpentry.
“It seemed like my career took off overnight. But alas, fate had other plans. Just one week later, I would be in a horrible car accident,” he wrote on Instagram. “I picked up my handy tool bag, placed my one decent headshot on display, and went back to carpentry and construction. Nine years later, I got an audition call for Trading Spaces, and the rest is history.
His first major role in Hollywood was as a set designer for Nicholas Cage’s 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas, but he didn’t really break through until he played a builder on Trading Spaces, the show that defied stereotypes about house renovation.
After winning two Prime Time Emmy Awards on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Ty moved on to other projects after the show was canceled back in 2011. He first appeared on the ABC chat show The Revolution. After that, he made appearances on the cooking shows On The Menu and American Diner Revival. He also opened a Los Angeles-based design store. 2018 saw Ty rebuild Trading Spaces in addition to taking part in the third season of Deluxe Corporation’s Small Business Revolution: Main Street. The last time we saw him hosting Battle on the Beach was.
He claimed there is no ill will or bad blood, even though he wasn’t asked to return to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition when the show just aired again.
In addition to serving as a mentor and design consultant for HGTV’s Battle on the Beach, Ty presently presents the show Rock the Block.
Ty married 33-year-old social media manager Kellee Merrell in November 2021. He shared the good news on Instagram with the caption, “It’s the ‘yes’ for me,” and popped the question to her with an exquisite diamond ring fashioned like a tea drop.
Despite having known one other for a long time, they didn’t start dating until they accidentally crossed paths in the previous year.
I’ve been a distant admirer of Kellee for a while. “She’s a beautiful person on the inside and out,” Ty said to People.
Thankfully, our paths eventually crossed at the right time. It’s one of those circumstances where you feel happy to be with someone. She changed the opinion I had always had about marriage. I’m glad I waited for the one.
The host showed a funny video of him from last year at the beach with his shorts hiked up to his tummy after a few viewers pointed out that he no longer had a six-pack. “He was pushing his stomach out,” the man added.
In reaction, he wrote a lengthy Instagram post titled “Thoughts on Aging,” saying, “What was an honest moment of just trying to make my wife laugh, was then picked apart by strangers—with a lot of views, comes a lot of hate!” Comments like “gross,” “disgusting,” “grandpa,” “he got fat,” “omg he’s so old now,” and so on.And I wondered if I were still well, if I would get the same comments. “Perhaps we ought to give guys the same grace that we give women? The female community has shown such strength in supporting people of diverse shapes and sizes as well as aging, which is AMAZING (keep it coming),” he remarked.
Of course, when he made his television debut, he was considerably younger than he is now.
“I receive a ton of comments like, ‘NOOOo, what happened to him?’ every day. I hope the statement “lack of exercise” that I heard someone make the other day is accurate! I exercise more diligently seven days a week than I have ever done before (this over 50 sh*t is no joke). I made my television debut 22 years ago, so let me recap what happened! He wrote. “At 57 years old, I’ve never been happier—no, I don’t have a six pack or a magnificent head of hair with frosted tips anymore! But I do have insight, compassion, and life lessons! All of this simply serves to demonstrate that, despite everything, I am a sentient human. Yes, I am older, but I think that’s sort of nice.
We think that he looks amazing.
