Cats are renowned for being independent creatures who mostly explore the outside world, coming inside mainly for meals and bathroom breaks. Taking care of them is easy because of their independence. However, if they don’t get their fur trimmed often, it might become a big issue. Sadly, Hidey, a cat whose owner had Alzheimer’s disease, was there to personally witness this abuse. Since he was unable to provide for her, Hidey’s owner ignored her throughout the years. When animal rescuers eventually found her, they were shocked to see how completely matted she had gotten, almost like an octopus.
Hidey may not have been groomed for up to two years, according to the Pittsburgh Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center, where she was taken after her arrival. In other areas, her fur had grown to an incredible six or eight inches.
Thankfully, Hidey had support from veterinarian Jenn Levitzki. She posted a video of Hidey getting groomed on Facebook and said, “Hidey has the worst matting I have ever seen; she has dreadlocks.” For Hidey’s comfort, she was given a small amount of medication before to the procedure.
“This cat is definitely feeling a lot better now that our medical team has removed pounds of matted fur from her body!” The shelter shared content on its Facebook page, according to People magazine.
After an incredible transformation, Hidey was welcomed into a new home with a distant relative of her former owner. This touching story serves as a helpful reminder of the value of spending time with our elderly loved ones and their pets.
