Kobe Williams, 27, tragically lost her father after pledging to protect her newborn twins, Khyzier and Khazmir, from the destructive force of Hurricane Helene. Kobe sought sanctuary in her Thomson, Georgia, home in the hopes of shielding her one-month-old sons from the storm’s terrible power, but fate had other plans.

The youngest known victims of Hurricane Helene, which tore across Georgia, killing 33 and leaving a path of devastation in its wake, were Kobe and her twins. The storm, which had already wreaked havoc over the Southeast of the United States, shattered their family.

Just a few minutes before the tragic incident, she spoke with Kobe’s father, Obie Williams. When the storm got harder, Kobe promised to follow his advice and hide with her infants in the bathroom. But when Obie tried to get through to her again a short while later, he got no response.

Kobe’s brother eventually made it to her house after swerving over downed trees and damaged power wires. Upon arriving, he was met with an incredible scene of devastation: a large tree had crashed through the roof, directly where Kobe and her puppies had sought safety. None of them succeeded.

Kobe, a loving and strong mother, had put off her goal of becoming a nurse assistant so that she could dedicate more time to her sons’ upbringing. Her family now has to grieve the untimely loss of two innocent bystanders and a mother as a result of one of the deadliest hurricanes in American history.
