Richard Gere was filming “Time Out of Mind” in New York when a tourist from Paris thought he was a homeless man. Alongside Steve Buscemi and Kyra Sedgwick, Gere featured in the movie in 2014.
The 74-year-old, well-known, talented actor was playing a mentally ill man who had been kicked out of his house and was now homeless.

In a movie scene, he was meant to play a homeless man. In that role, he would pass thousands of people while sitting on the street in rags.
“I spent more than forty minutes in character and on location for the first shot, and not a single person looked at me,” he said. I was in one of the busiest districts in New York. If I had been Richard Gere, I would not have survived for thirty seconds.
The well-known actor clarified, “People filled in these spaces with an incorrect story because they saw my body language and where I was in the street. I wasn’t the movie star.”

No one made him a financial offer. Not a single person gave him credit. And that proved the major point, which is that we ignore the homeless even if they are here. Oren Moverman, who directed the movie, disclosed.
After the movie, co-star Richard Gere shared something on social media featuring Jenna Malone. The article is as follows:
I’m Richard Gere. Hello. I was astonished to see that last week, someone had posted a photo of myself on my Facebook fan page, appearing like a homeless man on the streets of New York.
