Everyone ages and eventually passes away.
Since I believe that death is a beautiful and unavoidable part of life, I don’t truly fear it. However, I’m afraid that as I age, I won’t be able to care for myself.
I wouldn’t want to be completely dependent on other people, unable to even remember my children’s names or go to the bathroom by myself.
Maria was spending her days at a care facility, aware that they would not be long. Fortunately, one of her former classmates was working by the care home in Austinburg, Ohio.
She had been Joshua Woodard’s teacher since he was nine years old, thus they had a close bond. Maria’s favorite song to hear before she passed away was “How Great Thou Art.”
Naturally, Joshua was pleased to grant Maria’s final request.
With great emotion, he played her favorite song and retrieved the lyrics from his phone.
The fact that Joshua had known Maria since he was nine years old was particularly moving.
“Hospice workers are angels, but this hospice aide is something special,” remarked Marti Adkins Redmond.
“The assistant, Joshua Woodard, studied with Maria while she was a voice and piano instructor. Caregivers for hospice patients are truly special people!
Maria’s sister-in-law managed to capture the heartwarming moment on camera:
