Chinese-Mexican showgirl Lyn May wowed audiences and presidents alike with her roles in almost a hundred motion pictures. Known as “The Goddess of Love,” her life drastically changed in the early 1990s when a routine Botox procedure went horribly wrong, permanently changing the way she looked.
Lyn’s childhood was difficult. Her birth name is Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares, and she was born in 1952 in Acapulco, Mexico. Her family sold mementos to tourists in order to make money. While working as a server, she met the thirty-year-old American sailor who would later become her first love. Their relationship ended as a result of Lyn’s abuse allegations after they moved to Mexico City and had two children.
Lyn started her dance career in Acapulco following her divorce. Her distinct look soon caught the interest of TV producers, and she was invited to appear on the hit program *Siempre en Domingo*. Enrique Lombardini called her when she became well-known, extending an invitation for her to participate in burlesque performances at Teatro Esperanza Iris. Lyn was initially put off by the burlesque aesthetic, but she soon came around to it. She gained notoriety for it in the Ficheras movies of the 1970s and 1980s, where she was referred to as “Lyn May: The Goddess of Love.” But despite these films’ success at the box office, Lyn’s notoriety declined.
Lyn May has made a lot of audacious claims and controversial moves in her lifetime. She has, for instance, stated that she had an affair with a former president of Mexico, but she has never revealed who he was. She married film producer Guillermo Calderón Stell in 2008, and the two of them stayed together until his passing in 2018.
When Lyn revealed in 2021 that she was expecting her 68-year-old fiancé, Markos D1, at the age of 29, she created waves once more. Many others raised doubts about the news’s veracity and showed curiosity as well. Subsequently, it was found that her announcement of her pregnancy was a publicity ploy to highlight her impending farewell tour.
Lyn May has faced obstacles in her quest for beauty. She tried to change the features of her face with a cosmetic treatment early in her career and made a catastrophic error. Instead of collagen injections, a con artist gave her injections of cooking oil, which left her face covered in unattractive lumps. The damage persisted even after several treatments, which demonstrated her unwavering quest of perfection.
In the modern period, Lyn May is still regarded as a fascinating and powerful person. Her biography contains not just beauty and renown, but also personal suffering and her will to pave her own path.
