Co-host of ‘The View’ triggers Matthew McConaughey, his reply is very unexpected

Matthew McConaughey, a strong advocate for “responsible gun ownership,” and Joy Behar of The View engaged into a furious dispute when the latter questioned the actor’s anti-gun stance.

McConaughey highlighted his children’s book Just Because and discussed the importance of his work as a father of three during his appearance on the show. After she wandered off course, co-host Sunny Hostin applauded the actor for being “so outspoken against violence, and gun violence in particular”.

You considered a candidacy for Texas governor in 2021, but you eventually made the decision to prioritize your family. Do you think you’ll hold public office in the future? Hostin asked.

“Yeah, if that’s where I believe I can be most helpful,” the actor from Interstellar replied. “I want to be the most supportive father I can be right now.”

“Do you think being anti-gun could help you win an election in Texas?” Behan enquired once again.

Pointing at Behar, McConaughey remarked, “One thing about me and politics, to give you a direct statement right there, is me playing a game I’m not interested in playing.”

In an effort to defuse the situation, Behar responded, “Okay, don’t do it. I did want to say that I’ve done a lot of research in terms of your advocacy, and I don’t think you’re pro-gun responsibility and legislation.”

Following the 2022 Robb Elementary School incident in Uvalde, Texas, in which an 18-year-old ex-student killed 19 students and two teachers, McConaughey called for a “renegotiation of our wants from our needs” at a White House meeting.

Checks for criminal histories and responsible ownership are crucial. It is necessary to increase the age limit to 21 in order to purchase an AR-15 weapon. There is a waiting period for these kind of weapons. The speaker said that red flag rules are tactical, reasonable, and practical; those who break them should suffer the consequences.

The Oscar-winning actor went on, “Responsible gun owners are fed up with the Second Amendment being abused and hijacked by some deranged individuals.”

Following the horrifying incident, the actor and his wife, Camila Alves, launched the Greenlights Grant Initiative with the goal of “ensuring the well-being of our children and creating safer school environments.”

Alves is the parent of three children, Levi, 15, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10, in addition to McConaughey.
