At the end of the day, most kids look forward to bath time, and the more toys in the water, the better.
But after her small son had a horrific accident that would have left him blind, a woman in Illinois is warning other parents about the potential that an apparently harmless bath toy could be dangerous for kids.
Eden Strong discovered that her two-year-old son Baylor had an irritated eye while she was giving him a bath. Baylor’s eye got worse after taking a bath, even though she thought it was because he had water in it.
Her son was diagnosed with cellulitis, a potentially fatal bacterial skin infection. In just 12 hours, his eye went from pink to infected.

“His eye was protruding from his face,” she wrote on Facebook. Her post has since gone viral. It was rather unclear. His fever was really high.
“I cried the entire trip to a larger hospital in the hopes that he wouldn’t die.
The next week was really eerie. His cellulitis was so severe that it eventually spread to the remainder of his face and both of his eyes. They told me he might lose sight in the worst eye, but thank God, his eyes healed.
It was a squirting bath toy that gave Baylor his terrible eye injury.

“I learned later that because the water never completely drains from those kinds of toys, bacteria can just grow in them that you can’t stop,” the woman said.
Eden posted gory photos of her son’s injuries to Facebook in an effort to warn other parents. 192,000 individuals have shared the post since then. Eden was inundated with pictures of other parents’ children who had experienced similar experiences.
Strong expressed her wish that the makers of bath toys would consider this.
