Every animal at a shelter aspires to have a forever home, but some are always rejected without any fault of their own by potential adopters. Some animals seem to put off people from wanting to adopt them due to their somewhat unusual appearance.
Espresso is a shelter cat that is presently looking for a permanent home, but people don’t seem to notice her due of her unusually wide eyes.
On August 2, the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society shared a photo of Espresso, a cat in their care. (She gets her name from the well-known Sabrina Carpenter song “That’s that me, espresso.”)
Espresso was a stray caring for her young after suffering trauma. Espresso’s children have all moved out and found permanent homes, and her wounds have healed; yet, for the past month, she has been having difficulty finding a house of her own.
The staff at the shelter thinks that because of her appearance—especially her distinctly different-sized eyes—adopters may pass her by.
Espresso has a smaller right eye than a left, although it’s unknown if this is because of a birth defect or an earlier trauma. Thankfully, it doesn’t irritate the cat or have any negative health repercussions.
She may be overlooked in favor of cats with more conventional appearances, even though her carers think that her eyes give her a “unique” appearance. “Unfortunately, people will see something different about an animal and tend to not give them a chance,” the Ohio SPCA wrote on Facebook.
Espresso continues to look for a place to call home, a place where people will accept her as she is. The shelter describes her as a “quiet but very friendly girl” who gets along with people and cats of all ages.
Adoption forms are available for download on the shelter’s website; complete them and email them to [email protected]. During business hours, which are Wednesday through Friday from 2 to 7 PM and Saturday from noon to 4 PM, you can visit Espresso and the other available cats.
All of the cats in the shelter have undergone microchipping, deworming, vaccines, and spaying or neutering.
Espresso is very beautiful and unique, and we hope she finds a home soon. Never should an animal be ignored because of how they look!
