These days, it must be hard to be a superstar because everything you do and decide is scrutinized and posted for discussion by everyone.
Perhaps that has always been the case—living in the spotlight has always meant attracting cameras and flashing lights—but given the prevalence of sensationalized social media headlines and viral content, the emphasis is more acute now than it was a few decades ago.
A-list celebrities’ wardrobe choices are closely examined in addition to their words and actions, and this is particularly the case during the awards season. The 96th Academy Awards were held last weekend at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, and as was to be expected, there was a lot of media coverage.
Stars and titans of the film business walked the red carpet, and you can bet your bottom dollar that their choices for costumes were scrutinized online like contestants in a huge fashion design competition.
A particular star whose look was scrutinized closely was Charlize Theron, who drew notice with her glistening black ensemble.
The actress looked lovely at this year’s Vanity Fair Oscars Party, but fans couldn’t agree on whether her ensemble was a success or miss, which led to a lot of online conversation.
Others began to criticize the 48-year-old as soon as her pictures surfaced on social media. Some people appreciated her decision to wear a see-through outfit that showed off her underwear. Some weren’t nearly as much.
“Do you have any bad pictures? You look amazing in all of them.”Someone wrote a piece.
Amazingly lovely, said a second individual.
“This woman is stunningly gorgeous,” joked a third.
A fourth said, “This woman is just amazing. She has great dedication to acting, producing, and social assistance.”
Critics also applauded Theron’s appearance, as is typically the case when popular personalities make themselves known to the public.
Not a good option, someone wrote.
“You look great, but this clothing is awful,” observed someone else.
“Yuk—too thin,” remarked a third.
Although I adore her, I don’t think this hairstyle suits her. Another person said, “She’s so skinny and the dress, hmm, no.”
Theron has already openly discussed her fashion choices in talks and exhorted others to always follow their feelings.
“I think there should be no faux pas,” she stated to People in the previous year.
“I really think that if you just follow your feelings and how much you love something, it’s not a faux pas.”
Regarding the outfits that drew harsh criticism, the actress remarked at the time, “I mean, there are a lot of dresses that I know people didn’t like, but I’m like, I looked at myself in the mirror that night and I was feeling myself.”
