A lot of cartoons and comedic routines have made fun of the idea that a mailman would approach a house and be snarled at or repelled by a dog, but in reality, delivery workers make friends with a lot of the animals they encounter on a regular basis.
The UPS Puppies Facebook page celebrates these relationships by sharing stories of drivers who bring these dogs toys and treats in addition to goods.
Of these drivers, Katie Newhouser loves every dog she encounters when she goes for her daily stroll, but she grew particularly fond of one.
That special connection would be useful when this cute dog ran out of places to dwell.
Katie Newhouser loves to interact with all the dogs who pass by her delivery route, in addition to her three pets.
However, one dog in particular held a special place in her heart: Leo, a pit bull.
He would always start barking as soon as I pulled up to the apartment complex. He would always jump inside my truck when I stopped, Katie wrote on Facebook.
Even after Katie got to know Tina, Leo’s owner, she found out that her son had found Leo when he was a puppy and that he needed to be bottle-fed.
Katie received some devastating news.
“They (Tina and Leo) were very very close and did everything together,” Katie said to others. “It appears improbable that dogs ever forget someone they have had a close bond with.”
But Katie found out about the untimely passing of her friend Tina—who was also Leo’s mother—in July 2017.
After the first shock subsided, she worried about what would happen to Leo and called Tina’s son Cannon to find out where he was. Cannon informed her he couldn’t since he was a Marine on active service, according to Animal Channel.
“He cannot be separated from his sibling, Moose.”
Katie chose to adopt Leo herself, even though she already had three dogs.
“It was probably confusing for him at first, but he has adapted well,” Katie said. He and his brother Moose are inseparable. His sister Bailey has taken a while to warm up, but at last they are playing. When Leo was introduced into the house, everything was different.
Katie shared the exciting news on the UPS Dogs Facebook page. Thousands of people responded to her message, praising Leo’s new house.
Leo still misses his mother Tina, but he has found a new home with someone who loves him.
