President Joe Biden unexpectedly declared that he will not seek reelection in 2024. Democrats expressed concerns about his age and eligibility for a second term after a challenging debate performance, which prompted this decision. Biden declared in a statement released to the public on Sunday that he will “step down” and focus on completing his duties as president for the remainder of his tenure.
Biden’s decision has ruined what was anticipated to be a spirited duel between him and former President Donald Trump. Democrats lost faith in Biden’s ability to unseat Trump despite the fact that both candidates secured their party’s primaries, largely due to his appalling debate performance.

Although he acknowledged the concerns over his age, 81-year-old Biden reassured the audience about his qualifications and his willingness to continue in the contest. However, following the debate, Trump’s advantage over Biden grew in polls, indicating that the debate had a negative impact on his campaign.
Later, in a statement, Biden supported Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and underlined the need for party unity to defeat Trump. With Biden’s withdrawal from the race, Harris is now being thought of as a potential competitor.
While the Democratic Party is wrestling with internal problems and calls for a new candidate, the Republican Party has maintained unity at their National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. During his speech, Trump made a point of bringing the country together and defending the rights of all Americans.
