Sadly, a man who lit a firecracker on his head while celebrating the Fourth of July passed away. The incident occurred in Summerville, South California, when Allen Ray McGrew, 41, decided to wear an Uncle Sam suit with stars and stripes over his top hat and carry a lit firecracker. It was a showboating prank that turned into a terrible accident.
Allen’s wife, Paige McGrew, recalled the tragic events. She thought Allen was just joking around before she put the firework down. To her dismay, she soon found that he had lit it already. She and others attempted to warn him, but the fireworks burst before it was too late.
Allen promptly collapsed due to severe brain damage that turned out to be fatal. Shortly after the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the Cottonwood Drive location, he was declared deceased.
When this horrible occurrence occurred, a lot of people were celebrating and imbibing. Allen decided to join in the Independence Day festivities despite not being a drinker. The day was meant to celebrate their son Hunter’s engagement and upcoming wedding in addition to honoring the nation’s independence. Apart from relishing the holiday, Allen was overjoyed with his son’s achievements.
Following this disaster, the public has been urged to exercise caution and abstain from handling fireworks themselves. The Santa Clara Unit of Cal Fire emphasized that employing pyrotechnics carries risks, including the possibility of fires. It is advised that people put their trust in the professionals to manage the fireworks displays in order to ensure everyone’s safety.
While Allen was using legal pyrotechnics, concerns have grown over illegal fireworks, which are far more dangerous. Dr. Cliff Sheckter, Medical Director of the Regional Burn Center at Valley Medical Center, advised against using these fireworks since they contain small dynamite fragments. Victims of these accidents frequently suffer life-altering consequences and lasting harm.
