The British Royal Family has always been involved in scandals, but one of the biggest of them, which at the time rocked the monarchy to its foundation, was the relationship between Prince Charles and his current wife, Camilla.
They were both married to other people at the time the nation and the entire globe found out about their romance.
The general public denounced their relationship because they thought Camilla was to blame for the dissolution of the heir apparent’s marriage to Lady Di, the princess who won over millions of hearts—not just Britons, but people everywhere.
In a televised interview, Diana revealed to Martin Bashir the reasons behind the problems in her marriage, saying, “Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded.”
It is clear that Charles and Camilla’s love is sincere, having begun before he even met Diana.
They never ceased to be close, though. Charles and Camilla maintained their relationship even after Charles wed Diana.
According to royal biographer Penny Junior, Charles knew he wasn’t in love with Diana, his future bride, but it was too late to back out of the engagement.
“Charles wasn’t sure he was marrying Diana for the right reason, but there was no other option. Encouraged by the thought that their marriage would change things, he put on a brave front,” she wrote, as the Mirror reported.
Most importantly, Camilla and Diana were friendly and knew one another before things went south.
“I got to know Camilla really quickly. In the book Diana: In Her Own Words, Diana stated, “I was introduced to the circle, but I was a threat. I was a very young girl, but I was a threat.”
In the present day, Camilla is the Queen and Charles is the King of Britain.
Britain’s populace grew to love Camilla over time, and her stature has only increased. Although Camilla was once terrified to leave her house for fear of the public’s reaction when her affair was made public, the two are now the head of state and are still blissfully married.
Author of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: A Royal Survivor, a book published in 2022, royal analyst Angela Levin said in an interview with OK Magazine that Camilla had to put up with “torrents” of abuse from the public once the affair was made public. She had her pals run her errands instead of her, so she never even went shopping.
She was portrayed as the world’s most nasty lady, therefore it was quite difficult for her. She was referred to as a “rottweiler” on a regular basis, so Levin claimed that it must have surprised her much that people thought such horrible things about her.
It was disclosed that Charles paid for Camilla’s protection for years, or until the two got married in 2005, in order to keep her safe. Charles may not have realized how terrible it was for her. Camilla didn’t have protection officers at the time because she wasn’t a member of the Royal Family, and he was frequently gone on engagements while working hard for the nation and Commonwealth. However, Charles did obtain protection for her, which he paid for himself, until he eventually realized,” Levine disclosed.

Beyond being sisters, Annabel and Camilla are the best of friends. After operating her business, Annabel Elliot Interior Design and Antiques, in Dorset for over three decades, Annabel was ranked as the sixth most prominent female interior designer in the United Kingdom in 2014.
Charles and Camilla stole the show when they first photographed together in public at Annabel’s 50th birthday celebration. Later, after Charles and Diana’s divorce, Annabel was the one behind the wheel of the vehicle that quickly escorted Camilla out of the public eye and away from the infamous paparazzi press.

“He’s examining every document, asking himself, ‘What’s this for?For a chair, is that right? Where is the source of that? Does it contain nylon? He is not fond of duvets.
Following the publication of the new BBC1 documentary Charles III: The Coronation Year, Annabel talked candidly about her relationship with Camilla and her family, referring to her sister as King Charles’ “rock” through many difficult and trying times.
She truly is his rock, and I can’t say that enough. “She is a totally devoted person who doesn’t experience extreme highs and lows,” Annabel stated in the documentary.
“He brings to her everything,” the queen’s sister continued. I’m not talking about all of this, but you know, he’s so knowledgeable and interested in so many other topics, things that, had they not met, she probably would not have been receptive to. They truly are extreme opposites and each other’s yin and yang, yet it works well.

“A tender was not present. She is well-liked and well-known by the Prince. “Annabel Elliot is a seasoned interior designer,” a representative for Clarence House stated at the time.
Annabel served the royal family on other occasions. She became Charles’ main interior designer in 2012 after overseeing a project to turn a “run-down barn building” on the grounds of Dumfries House in Ayrshire, Scotland, into an elegant guesthouse. She also created 12 cottages for the Duchy of Cornwall.
Since 1972, Annabel and Simon Elliot have been married. The couple has three children together, one of whom is Ben Elliot, a businessman and Conservative Party fundraiser who co-chaired the party from July 2019 until September 2022.
Naturally, Annabel and her family attended King Charles’ coronation the previous year.
“Recalling my childhood, I saw my sister in this golden coach as I watched the Queen’s Coronation on a small black-and-white television when I was two years old. It’s such an odd feeling that I have no idea how to describe it. This is not possible. It was a memorable moment, according to Annabel.
She’s a lot smaller than me, so I guess I was scared about entering the Abbey the entire time. “Is she going to be okay?” is how I feel.
