Legendary country music performer Garth Brooks has a song. In it, he sings of running into his “old high school flame” at a football game with his wife. He’d prayed so much in high school years ago that God “would make her mine.”
We are expected to draw the connection while we listen to the song. He wouldn’t have met his wife if God had fulfilled his wish during his high school years. “Some of God’s greatest gifts are unanswered prayers,” he continues to sing.
That seems like a useful viewpoint to consider! What if God was just seeing things more clearly than we are? What if his wisdom exceeded ours? What if he was more aware of what was best for us than we were?
Yes, he does!
