On Wednesday, Ed Sheeran announced on Instagram that his new album, Subtract, will be out in May.
In the open post, Ed talked about how he came up with the song for his latest release and shared the devastating news that his wife Cherry Seaborn had been diagnosed with a tumor during her pregnancy with their second child, Jupiter.
stated that he had spent more than ten years working on the record before abandoning it and starting again in a week because of a number of tragic life circumstances.
“My pregnant wife was told she had a tumor within a month of becoming pregnant, and there was no way to treat it until after the baby was born,” Ed wrote.
Ed went on, referring to the untimely death of Brenda Edwards’ son Jamal: “My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly.” I was experiencing anxiety, despair, and terror in waves.
I had the impression that I was drowning, with my head below the water’s surface and my eyes trying to open to get air.
Ed wrote to explain how the terrible sequence of events affected Subtract.
“I’m just putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life; I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, for the first time.”
Supporting messages for Cherry were quickly sent by Ed’s followers, who wrote: “PLEASE send all of our love to Cherry, we really hope she’s doing much better now.” and “Hope Cherry is okay, and you are both on the road to recovery.”
In May 2022, Cherry gave birth to Jupiter, and Ed used a picture of a little pair of socks to announce her arrival.
I just wanted to let everyone know that we had another gorgeous baby daughter. We are ecstatic to have her as a family member and are deeply in love with her.
Jupiter and Lyra Antarctica, Ed and Cherry’s other daughter, have never been spotted; the couple would rather keep the kids out of the spotlight.
Ed withheld additional information on his wife’s tumor, but let’s hope that she was able to fully recover after giving birth.
