Shortly after the flight attendant noticed a 10-year-old child making a strange symbol with his fingers, the aircraft made an emergency landing 
It was a typical morning flight from Munich to Barcelona. The sun had barely started to rise when flight attendant Anna went down the aisle between the rows to check that everyone had fastened their seat belts. Everything was going according to plan until she noticed the boy in the third row by the window.
He was one of those unobtrusive children who want to fit in. He looked about ten or eleven years of age. Beside him sat a man in his forties who seemed robust. His hand, resting on the armrest, delicately stroked the boy’s shoulder. The man had cold, piercing eyes.
Anna was on the verge of fainting when she noticed the barely perceptible child making a strange finger motion. At first, she didn’t really listen; maybe he was kidding. But a little while later, the aircraft made an emergency landing, and everyone on board was evacuated. 
Something in the boy’s eyes disturbed the flight attendant: he was in a panic and silently calling out for help.
Later, when the father got up and went to the bathroom, the child made the same motion, but this time it was desperate. His eyes were filled with apprehension.
Anna hesitated. It was a sign she recognized. The hand signals that children in peril can employ were taught to her. It was a call for help on that sign.
She approached him, smiling, and handed him a glass of apple juice without disclosing anything.

The boy nodded silently and took the drink in trembling hands. He looked around again, almost afraid the guy would come back.
The man returned with a suspicious glance at Anna. His brow was sweating profusely, but the air conditioner was working. He looked at the child and then at his phone as soon as he sat down.
Anna felt her heart racing.
She subtly conveyed the message, “Possible kidnapping,” to the pilots via a colleague. Row 3A. A child signaling for assistance. A man in an odd mood. Make an emergency landing at the airport and call the police.
Ten minutes later, the captain announced, “A technical malfunction has forced us to make an unscheduled landing in Geneva.”
The man became nervous. He asked to go to the bathroom again. They were informed by the staff, nevertheless, that there were already two security officers waiting in the aisle.
As they led him outside, he shouted:
You don’t understand! This is my son! I have papers!
The documents, however, were fake.
Below, cops and a child safety officer were already waiting for the boy. When they gently asked the child if he knew the man, he shook his head and began to cry.
Then it came to light that he had been kidnapped weeks earlier from another country. Even though Interpol and local authorities were leading the hunt, nobody expected to discover him on the plane.
