Nathan got up when he heard his dog, Oscar, barking stubbornly outdoors. When he went outside to check, he was startled to find an abandoned baby sleeping next to his loyal dog. After that baby, his life will never be the same.
Despite his wealth, Nathan was well known for his generosity and compassion. He had a good existence until he found out three months ago that his wife had been having an affair with a close friend.
This transgression led to Nathan divorcing her. His ex-wife moved to a different state with her lover. Despite the fact that it was obvious that Nathan felt lonely, he remained kind to others.
Oscar, a puppy, was adopted by Nathan to help him deal with his loneliness.
“At least you won’t ever betray me,” he said, smiling sorrowfully.
Oscar needed to learn to be independent and obedient, but Nathan was too busy. Every afternoon, Oscar would go to the yard to get some fresh air and come back alone.
One day as Nathan was watching a movie, he noticed Oscar had not returned. Worried, he headed outside. He heard barking in the distance and followed it to the road. He found Oscar sitting on the lawn with a baby.
“The poor thing,” he said, shocked that a newborn could be abandoned in such a state. He looked for belongings, a clue, anything. But there was only a letter and the basket. The baby was crying. Oscar might have been reassuring the youngster by gently prodding her with his nose. Nathan picked up the note and read the following:
“Avoid attempting to locate her parents. Now you have this child. Take care of her.
Before leaving for home, he stopped to pick up some baby formula, diapers, and clothing. He changed and nursed the baby when he got home, then called the police.
“This baby was alone outside. There are no adults nearby. “I had no choice but to bring her in,” he said to the authorities.
The officials said they will review the CCTV footage in an effort to find the parents. In the meanwhile, the child had to be placed in a foster home.
Nathan made up his mind immediately.
I could be her protector. I work from home, so I can take care of her.
After a quick background check, he was taken into temporary custody.
Weeks passed. Nathan was devoted to taking care of the young girl and showed love for her. When her biological parents could not be found, she was put up for adoption. Nathan immediately began the process of adopting her permanently. Taking inspiration from his own mother, who raised him alone, he named her Anna.
Anna was the name of his daughter. He lavished her with affection, safeguarded her, and reared her in happiness. They shared everything, went to the park, played games, and laughed.
When she was seven years old, her parents and teachers began to notice how much she looked like him at school. Her classmates even said they looked “like twins.”
Nathan had never recognized the difference between Anna and a biological child. He smiled whenever someone mentioned how similar they were.
One day, while playing in the yard with Oscar, Anna fell and sustained a slight head injury. As Nathan treated the wound, he made an unexpected discovery.
“Look, Anna. “We have the exact same birthmark,” he continued, stunned. He had never seen it before beneath her hair.
“Daddy, we were meant to be together,” she said, wiping away her tears.
Curious, Nathan ordered a DNA test. He sent in a sample of both Anna’s and his hair. Three weeks later, the results were in. The match rate was 99.9%.
Nathan was amazed at what he saw. He had always been loyal, but it dawned on him that his ex-wife may have been expecting his child when they broke up.
He called her.
“Why didn’t you tell me that we had a daughter?”
“Because I didn’t intend to raise her.” I wished to never see you again. I knew you would eventually find her. Goodbye.
She hung up. Nathan clutched the report to his chest in shock. Anna was biologically his daughter. But she had always been his daughter in his heart.
“What’s wrong, Daddy?” She asked.
“Nothin’,” my dear. I’m just ecstatic. Do you remember that you were an angel sent from heaven, despite the fact that I wasn’t your biological father?
She nodded.
“My biological father is you. “Never forget that,” she said, giving him a firm hug.
“Yes, Anna. “And this test proves it,” he added, passing the document to her.
“I told you… we were meant to be together,” she said.
Nathan fell in love again a few years later—at an Anna school event. Two years after he married a kind teacher, Anna became an older sister.
Now, Nathan is surrounded by his family. He retired early so he could be with his children as much as possible.
It all began one evening when Oscar, his dog, began to bark.
