Excuse me. It’s too much for me to bear. It said, “I hope someone gives them a chance at a better life,” in shaky handwriting.
It became hard to breathe for a while. I started crying. I was thinking about a thousand questions. But at the heart of this tragedy were two children: the boy, who was confused, terrified, and fiercely protective, and the baby, who was sleeping blissfully in her big brother’s reassuring arms.
The boy said nothing. “Can we stay here?” was all he said. You can rely on me to look after her.
I knelt down next to him, put my arm around his shoulders, and comforted him that he wasn’t alone. We’ll do everything we can to keep you safe.
Later on, we found out that the family had been going through a very difficult time. The mother was in a dire predicament and didn’t know where to go. Thankfully, word spread and many of individuals stepped up to help.
While the kid and sister are temporarily staying with their aunt, the mother is currently receiving assistance and treatment.
It’s possible that this story ended tragically. The reminder of how important it is to contact and provide assistance as quickly as possible, however, made a huge difference.
Children can sometimes teach us more than adults. He showed how powerful love can be. Even in the smallest heart, it can be enough to save a life.
