My wife gave away our cats without my consent: I searched for weeks until I accidentally found out where my pets were

Before I accidentally learned that my wife had disposed of our pets without telling me, I had spent weeks searching for them. One day, I came home to discover that my three beloved cats were gone.

The sight of fur everywhere tired me. My wife calmly said, “Ignore them.”

I was taken aback. Before we were married, I had known these adorable creatures for a very long time. They weren’t just pets; they were my family.

I ran to every shelter in the area, posted flyers, and distributed fliers. I spent weeks looking for them without success. My wife stubbornly refused to tell me where they had vanished.

When a friend called and said they had spotted my cats, things abruptly changed. That’s when I realized where they were. My heart sank at the hurt and rage.

When I walked into the house, there was a strange silence. No familiar meowing, no soft paw sounds on the ground.

“Where are our cats?” I asked, not taking off my shoes.

My wife looked absently at her phone’s screen.

I distributed them. I was tired of picking up fur all the time.

My breathing was labored. After spending so many years with me, these creatures abruptly disappeared.

“What do you mean you gave them away?” I asked, my voice shaking.

She remarked calmly, “It’s clean, quiet, and orderly now.” – You are no longer dependent on them.

It seemed like a betrayal. When I questioned, she simply said, “Where exactly have you taken them?”

To competent hands. Disregard them.

How can a loved one be forgotten? Week after week, day after day, I continued to search. No clues. She remained silent, as if nothing had happened.

Then one day I received a message from a friend of mine who works at a shelter:

A few days ago, three cats were brought in. They look a lot like you.

My heart started pounding. I immediately called:

Are they still around?

Unfortunately, they had already been adopted, I was told.

I wanted to know who had taken them in. The answer was no—confidential information. They told me, nevertheless, that the animals were well.

When I returned home, I was inconsolable. When my wife saw me, she half smiled:

She said smugly, “Are you still depressed?”

That same evening, I packed up and left. A week later, I filed for divorce.

A few months later, I came into the “Happy Adoption Stories” section of the shelter’s website while browsing it. I suddenly stopped looking at the photos. They were present.

My three adorable friends. alive, healthy, and loved. Everybody now had their own home, their own people, and their own happiness. I was looking at their photos and tears were streaming down my cheeks.

They’re all doing fine.
In fact, it seems like I am.
