Mom’s update after using dead son’s sperm to have baby via surrogate

Spanish actress Ana Obregón made headlines in 2023 after losing her son when she chose to carry out his final wish and use his sperm to conceive a child through surrogacy.

Tragically, Ana’s son, Aless Lequio, passed away from cancer in 2022 at the age of 27. After his death, Ana revealed that he had expressed a deep desire to have children, which she was determined to grant.

A year later, Ana used surrogacy to give birth to a girl in the United States. She then clarified that the child, Anita, was actually her grandchild rather than her daughter and was conceived using Aless’s saved sperm.

“This girl is my granddaughter, not my daughter,” Ana said in April 2023. “I will tell her that her father was a hero as she gets older so she will understand who he is and how proud she should be of him.” She is the daughter of Aless.

Ana, 70, recently spoke on Spanish television about the bittersweet fulfillment she gets from raising Anita, even though she is still suffering the loss of her only son.

“My house is full of stuffed animals and toys,” she said with a smile, according to The London Evening Standard. “I even have to jump into my little ball pool because of her.”

However, according to Ana, some of Anita’s physical challenges have become more difficult as she ages: “Picking her up is becoming more taxing on my back.”

As she reflected on the shock of Aless’ diagnosis, she candidly stated, “We go through life thinking we’re eternal, that nothing will happen to us.” Then, when you are 25, you learn that you have advanced cancer. You don’t expect to hear that when you’re young.

Ana added that she now worries more about raising Anita than she did while she was raising Aless because of the sadness of losing him as a child.

Her choice to employ a surrogate to conceive received a lot of public attention due to the exceptional circumstances and the fact that surrogacy is illegal in Spain. After adopting Anita after she was born in the US, Ana became her legal caretaker.

Ana has previously spoken openly about the deep loss she felt after her son passed away, saying that she felt “dead for three years.” It wasn’t until Anita was born that she began to feel alive once more.

In a recent interview with ¡Hola! to commemorate Anita’s second birthday, Ana said, “I know I’ll never feel the happiness I had when Aless was with me again.” That pain isn’t going away. You cannot come to terms with or move on from losing a child. All you have to do is learn to accept it.

She continued, “Thank goodness, Anita now keeps me busy.” “I was dead for three years from the time Aless died until Anita was born. Life is a breath of fresh air.
