Kane Brown was moved to tears while writing only one of the eighteen tracks on his album The High Road.
That is the final song on the project, “When You Forget.” The song makes direct reference to the artist’s and his family’s present personal issue. Brown claimed that his grandfather’s battle with Alzheimer’s served as the inspiration for the song and posted a photo of his grandparents on Instagram.
“I have never met a more industrious man, and I never will! “I wish I could be half the man he is now,” writes Brown.
“This is the only song on the album that made me cry while I was writing,” he continues. He’s been forgetting things lately, so I hope this song resonates with anyone going through what my family and I are. Alzheimer’s is an awful illness.
“I love you, pepaw,” the singer said as he concluded his tribute.

The High Road has songs written by Brown for family members in the past, along with two duets with his wife, Katelyn.
He recently revealed to Holler that “When You Forget” is also a sentimental song for his grandmother, who was his grandfather’s wife.
“When I called my Nana and told her that we were going to write a song about him, you could hear her crying over the phone,” he remembers.
The High Road came out last week.
Kane Brown’s “When You Forget” lyrics:
I walked into the room and looked you in the eye. It crushed my heart to realize that you were unaware of the person I’ve grown to like, but sometimes that’s just the way things go.
I’m devastated that your memory is deteriorating. If you look in the mirror and wonder who you are,
The chorus
You are still our hero. You’re still the man. An amazing buddy and an incredible father A wrench and a few words can solve any problem. The skeleton of our family in front of that church You kept your word on everything. I’m writing you this, for better or worse. so that when you forget, you may recall.
We were turning roads when you taught me to drive. You’ve had that ring since July 1955. You kept the food on that table and the lights on in that house. Thus, never be unsure or question anything.
Chorus repetition
It’s devastating to see your memories deteriorate if you look in the mirror and wonder who you are.
