A recent story claims that Brett Gardner’s son asphyxiated to death while playing for the Yankees.
We announced Miller Gardner’s death yesterday after hearing a heartbreaking message from Brett and his wife, Jessica. According to the statement, the 14-year-old had initially become ill “while on vacation with several other family members.”
Unfortunately, we had to let you know that our youngest son, Miller, had passed away. “He was 14 years old and left us far too soon after falling ill while on vacation with several other family members,” the teen’s parents said.
“On the morning of Friday, March 21st, he passed away quietly in his sleep, but there are still many unanswered questions.”
The grieving family did not provide any other details on Miller’s illness that he contracted while on vacation, instead requesting privacy while they “mourn his loss and search for healing.”
Miller, however, asphyxiated to death in a Costa Rican resort, according to a recent TMZ report. While on a family vacation at the resort, the teen and a few other group members fell seriously ill, according to Inside Edition.
Local police hypothesized that the teen’s death may have been brought on by “possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food,” according to NBC News.
The results of toxicology and autopsy are still awaiting confirmation of the initial cause of death, according to Juan Pablo Alvarado, a spokesperson of Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigative Agency.
Miller’s father, Brett, spent his entire 14-year Major League Baseball career as an outfielder with the Yankees. The 41-year-old had been spending more time with his family in South Carolina since his last game in 2021.
The Yankees said in a statement that they were rooting for Gardner.
“The Yankees family is grieving and our hearts are heavy after learning of Miller Gardner’s passing,” the organization said. When trying to express such an inexplicable loss, words seem insufficient and pointless. Not only did Brett grow up in this organization for more than 17 years, but so did his wife, Jessica, and their two boys, Hunter and Miller.
Miller had a lively and passionate attitude, a friendly and loving manner, and a spark in his eyes. Together with Brett, Jessica, Hunter, and their extended family and friends, we grieve his passing.
“We will continue to support the Gardner family while honoring their right to privacy during this trying time, and they have our undying and unwavering affection.”
“I wish Miller a peaceful life.”
