Selena Gomez got a lot of criticism after posting a video to her Instagram stories. In reaction to the latest immigration regulations implemented in the United States by the newly elected administration, she posted the video.
“They are attacking everyone of my people, even the children. I don’t understand. “I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t,” the 32-year-old singer wailed in the video.
“I don’t know what to do,” she replied, adding, “I promise, I’ll try everything.” Gomez is being criticized by many people for making the issue personal. “She’s so annoying,” someone said.
“Selena never stops talking about her feelings. “This is about real lives being impacted, not about showy tears,” said another person. “Maybe Selena should use her platform to donate, share resources, or raise awareness in a more constructive way instead of crying on camera,” another reader suggested.
But others thought the criticism was unfair. Someone wrote, “Yall just hate it because it’s Selena girlie just cares.” Another echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Oh, so expressing concern for your folks is suddenly referred to as “making things about myself.”
Gomez swiftly took down the video and wrote, “Apparently it’s not ok to show empathy for people,” on a plain black background, suggesting that the outrage was so great. She then deleted that story as well. Gomez had previously sent an emotional video on her social media accounts.
The actress has already talked about immigration; she even told the moving story of her family’s journey in the 2019 Netflix documentary series Living Undocumented.
In the past, the actress has collaborated with several nonprofit organizations, including Unicef. Furthermore, she created the Rare Impact Fund. The nonprofit is dedicated to funding mental health-related research projects.
