Family of 5 in Tiny House on Homestead

A five-member family named the Beers resides in a modest home situated on a historic homestead. It took them some trial and error to find their ideal property in northern Arizona. For them, achieving a slower way of life was well worth the time and effort invested. Justin and Rachel used to work long hours in corporate America in the busy city of Phoenix. Spending time with their children felt really uncommon. Eventually, they sold their big house and moved into an Airstream because they were unhappy with the way things were.

“My mom passed away in 2017, which is what motivated us to accomplish it as well. She had only been retired for five years or so, and it made her life seem incredibly brief. I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with my family, so I understood that time was precious and I wanted to make the most of it by living it to the fullest. I felt a pull from my heart to be near them.

We made the decision to be together, sell 90% of our possessions, live modestly, and prioritize experiences over material possessions.

I’m quite glad we did. There were undoubtedly obstacles and hiccups in our path.

This place felt like home the moment we set foot on it. I knew we had arrived here because of our voyage.

Three tiny homes that are part of the Hummingbird Tiny Home Inn are situated on the Beers family’s homestead and were designed and constructed in close collaboration with Uncharted Tiny Homes.

They refined a design based on their experience to make it ideal for their five-person household. They ultimately decided on a mobile home that was 34 feet long by 10 feet wide and had two one-foot pop-outs for the living area and separate bedroom below. In the roomy loft, each of their three kids has an own room.

They also like the play area upstairs, which has games and toys. Naturally, the youngsters play and explore outside as there is more space for them to do so. The historic little cabin that was originally part of the Beers family’s 20-acre property is now a playground and a Lego construction utopia.
