Valentine’s Day 2013 saw the birth of Tessa Evans, the girl who was born without a nose. Her family and people around the globe adore and compliment her on a daily basis.
Tessa is one of less than 100 people worldwide who suffer from the same illness. Her mother calls her “infallible courage” and “charming” attitude admirable.
After becoming the first person to receive nose implants eight years ago, Tessa is resilient and leading the greatest life possible. Her circumstances won’t deter her “from doing anything.”
Persons When Grainne and Nathan Evans’ Valentine’s Day baby was delivered without a nose, they were taken aback. There had been no indications of any issues, and their pregnancy had gone as expected.
Tessa, who was born devoid of a nose, is an Irish native who was diagnosed with Bosma arhinia microphthalmia syndrome (BAMS).
Less than 100 occurrences of this ailment have ever been documented in medical history, according to the National Institutes of Health.
Additionally, because the disease is so rare, it is difficult to treat.
It means that Tessa can’t breathe through her nose or smell, yet she can still sneeze, cough, and catch a cold.
Her father, Nathan, remarked, “It was funny the first time she sneezed, but we actually found out that it actually comes from your chest.” “But it was nice to have that little bit of normalcy.”
Tessa’s early weeks of life were difficult. She spent five weeks in intensive care.
She underwent surgery to install a tracheostomy tube in her mouth when she was less than two weeks old, allowing her to feed and sleep normally.
As a way to compensate for her lost limb, Tessa was the first person to receive a cosmetic nose implant. Her age was merely two years.
When a person needs a nose prosthesis, it is often completed in their teens, when their facial growth has ceased.
Her parents claim that the reason they underwent the procedure when she was little was to avoid the need for any further intrusive procedures down the road.
“We all loved Tessa so much and thought she was absolutely beautiful the way she was, so it was an extremely difficult decision,” Grainne remarked. “In the end, we went ahead because it was an opportunity to normalize her profile and change her appearance over time without ever cutting her face.”
“Once they have the final, nuanced nose in place, they will then get a medical tattoo artist to tattoo in light and shade to make the more detailed contours of her nose,” Grainne says of the drawn-out procedure that would eventually end when Tessa turns 13. “They can then dimple in the nostrils and shade them to look real,” she continued.
Grainne, a mother of three, wanted to be there for her baby at every moment of her recovery after making the difficult decision.
“I had never spent a night apart from Tessa, so it was extremely stressful, and leaving her side every evening at 11 p.m. was quite soul-destroying.” Grianne went on, “I found solace in the knowledge that I could arrive in a matter of minutes and was just a phone call away.” I would be there for her when she woke up the next day, no matter what. That was a gift, too.
The process of donating hasn’t been simple throughout time. It was necessary to remove one implant. But ten-year-old Tessa continues to be resilient and content.
“I’m really excited about getting a new nose; it will make me very happy.” “I won’t let my BAMs syndrome stop me from doing anything,” Tessa declared two years prior. The adorable girls chuckle and say, “It’s awesome that I can’t smell the bad smells but it’s disappointing that I can’t smell the good smells.”
Tessa’s energy is improving, according to Grainne, now that she is larger.
She inspires me every day with her boundless courage and zest for life. “Mummy, I love my new nose,” she exclaimed as she glanced at me in an elevator during our trip to London, the first time she had seen her new nose.
People are inspired by the young, gorgeous Tessa’s beauty and resilience as she embarks on the difficult, emotional journey.
In reaction to posts on her Facebook page, Tessa; Born Extraordinary, people are swooning over the adorable girl.
“I think her face is really gorgeous, even though it’s not your typical one. both character and intelligence. “Shine on, young one,” one person writes. “Tessa has grown and is beautiful and looks happy,” a second person says.
“Looking at the photos has brightened my day.” writes on the Internet in the third person.
