Numerous kids’ rights to an education are violated by bullying in schools. Unfortunately, people tend to underestimate how frequently this kind of violence occurs, and schools are occasionally unable to stop it.
Unfortunately, bullying has long-lasting effects that degrade the victim’s self-esteem.
William Gierke, 9, wanted to support the cause of breast cancer awareness by purchasing a pink T-shirt with the slogan Tough Guys Wear Pink on it.
He was excited to wear the T-shirt to school and felt proud of himself for not expecting his peers to make fun of him.
When they noticed that he was wearing pink, they began to hurl him insults like “sissy.”
William returned home in tears after feeling saddened. When his mother learned that he was being teased because of the color of his clothing, she became enraged. It didn’t feel right to see her son sobbing openly. The next day, he didn’t even want to attend to school because he was so hurt.
Fortunately, his teacher was present to set things right because his mother was unable to assist him.
Specifically, after learning about the harassment, William’s teacher, David Winter, made the decision to stand up for William by donning a pink T-shirt himself.
William was extremely grateful for his teacher’s support.
William remarked when his teacher stood up to the bullies, “I feel more comfortable, I don’t let it bother me anymore.”
The world needs more people like this teacher. This planet is far better off as a result of deeds like theirs.
