On a typical afternoon, Owen Burns heard his sister screaming as he was walking home from school. He was annoyed by the disturbance her shouts produced, yet he could see no evil in her cry for help.
But even though he was surprised as he turned to look out his window, he overcame it right away to make a choice that would save his life.
When Owen Burns heard his sister crying in the backyard, he was about to start playing his favorite game, “Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” on his PlayStation 3. The 13-year-old became irate because she felt she was being ridiculous.

The young man later saw someone dragging his sister, who was just eight years old, toward the woods that bordered their home while he was in his bedroom. The terrified teenager grabbed his slingshot and gathered any items he could find that he might use as ammunition, including a marble and a rock. Directly between the kidnapper’s eyes, he fired his gun.
He struck him in the chest again. “He used profanity. Owen told the media that he was cursing.
The gathering took place at the Burns’ home in Alpena Township, Michigan, in full daylight. Their mother Maggie Burns claims that the community doesn’t see many kidnappings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, his sister, age 8, was unharmed but undoubtedly terrified. The kidnapper, who is 17 years old, will be charged as an adult, the Michigan State Police said without disclosing his identity.
Lt. John Grimshaw referred to Owen’s actions as “extraordinary” and said, “He really is the one that… I believe saved his sister’s either life or from something seriously bad happening to her.” The actions of this young youngster were heroic in every way!

He added that the young man should be praised for his efforts. There was nothing exceptional about the adolescent’s slingshot use. Due to the sale, his mother paid $3 for it. In order to hone his aim, the youngster would occasionally walk outside to his yard and shoot at empty orange juice cans.
The youngster claimed that when he first saw a stranger trying to capture his sister, all he could think of was that if the stranger was successful, he would probably either kill his sister or exploit her as a sex slave.
“Coming from behind her, the kidnapper grabbed her like you see in the movies — hand over the mouth, arm around the waist — and was trying to pull her into the woods,” the victim recalled.

At that time, Owen took out his slingshot and began firing at him. She ran into the home sobbing when the abductor released his hold on her, telling her brother that she had nearly died.
Angry and berating the abductor, Owen stormed outdoors. He tried to hit him with a baseball, but it missed. Then, the slingshot’s rubber began to fracture, rendering his third attempt useless. He then made another attempt to strike him with it.

The siblings then called their mother, who had made a pit stop on her way home from work to help out at a relative’s home. Her upset and incomprehensible children were on the phone, so she hurried home to call the police. She could distinguish the word “kidnapper.”
For a few days, I was in shock, Maggie admitted.
At a nearby gas station, the 17-year-old kidnapper was found hiding. Later, he was charged with attempted kidnapping, attempted felony assault, and misdemeanor violence and assault in the Alpena County District Court.
The slingshot strikes to his head and chest would have clearly shown up as an injury, according to police, who stated in a press release.

Maggie doubted his son’s assertion that he struck the kidnapper precisely 200 feet away in the face and torso. The suspect’s marble-induced goose egg on his forehead, according to the police, continued to grow while they spoke with him, contradicting the information.
I usually lie, you stated.” To his mother, Owen said.
“I just couldn’t believe it,” she retorted. “Until there was evidence, it simply didn’t sound real. It sounds like something out of a movie.”
The youngster informed her mother that “things in the movies can and do happen in real life.” Clearly a hero, this young man!
